Itinerary

  • Day 1: Overnight flight

Blast some Samba and board your overnight flight to Brazil. Who cares if your seatmate side-eyes you for gyrating to the infectious rhythms? You’re going to Rio, baby.

This tour requires a visa for U.S. citizens. Check entry requirements or call us with questions at 800-766-2645.

  • Day 2: Arrive in Rio de Janeiro + Welcome Dinner

Welcome to the enormous and energetic seaside city of Rio de Janeiro. When in Brazil, do as the Brazilians do: beach it up, drink coffee, and get really excited about soccer, er, football.

    Today's highlights:

    • Meet an EF representative and fellow travelers as they arrive at the airport.
    • Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
    • Enjoy a Welcome Dinner and drinks with fellow travelers at the hotel restaurant.
  • Day 3: Explore Rio

Every year, millions visit Rio for its buzzy energy and giant statue of Jesus that overlooks the city atop Mount Corcovado. And of course, the beaches. There are over 2,000 of them in Brazil, so get ready to see and hear about them. A lot.

    Today's highlights:

    • Get to know Rio on a bus and walking tour with a local guide.
    • Take a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain for panoramic views of the city.
    • See the 98-foot-tall Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
    • See the iconic Copacabana Beach where thousands congregate to soak up the Brazilian rays.
  • Day 4: Beach day

Unwind with the cariocas, or residents of Rio, at one of the many beautiful beaches, complete with beachy activities and somethin’ cold to sip on. Try Brazil’s national cocktail, the caipirinha, a local fave made from cachaça, sugar, and lime. Saudé!

    Today's highlights:

    • Get a volleyball game going or stroll along the beach through the surf.
    • Park it on a lounge chair and listen to the IRL sound machine that is the ocean waves.
  • Day 5: Ferry to Ilha Grande

It’s been Rio! Leave the city behind for the tranquility of Ilha Grande, or “Big Island.” Located just an hour off the coast, only about 5,000 lucky people call Ilha Grande home. Sandy beaches, fruity drinks, and lush rainforest await.

    Today's highlights:

    • Take a ferry from Rio to Ilha Grande through the blue ocean waters.
    • Arrive at a tropical paradise with pristine beaches, clear lagoons, and a strict “no cars allowed” policy.
    • Feel the Brazilian hospitality at a welcome reception and say olá to your new home for the next three nights.
    • Visit Abrãao Village, the largest urban center on the island.
  • Day 6: Cruise around the Blue Lagoon

Take a boat to Lagoa Azul (translation: Blue Lagoon), a calm bay with perfectly clear waters. Spend the morning cruising around the islands and coves before stopping for a beachside lunch.

    Today's highlights:

    • Cruise the dreamy Blue Lagoon on a morning boating excursion.
    • Make your way to some of Ilha Grande’s most loved beaches.
    • Enjoy a beachside lunch at Japariz Beach, a former fishing village.

    Free time suggestions

Relax like a local: Mingle with locals at one of the island's bars. Drink a few beers, enjoy some Samba music, and maybe join in on the dancing.

Take a hike: Walk the leisurely Circuito do Abrãao hiking trail that takes you past a few beaches, the small ruins of an old prison, and a natural swimming hole.

  • Day 7: Hike to Feiticeira

Chasing waterfalls is today’s main event. One waterfall, actually: the Feiticeira. Join your local guide on a hike to one of Ilha Grande’s must-see spots and give Mother Nature a shout out for creating such a magical place.

    Today's highlights:

    • Hike to Cachoeira da Feiticeira, a natural waterfall in the middle of the rainforest.
    • Wonder why the name of this enchanting spot translates to the kinda spooky “Witch Waterfall.”
    • Reward yourself with a relaxing post-hike dip in the fall’s natural pool.
    • Stick your toes in the sand at Praia de Feiticeira, a tiny hidden gem of a beach.
  • Day 8: Travel to Foz do Iguaçu + Iguaçu National Park

National parks. Waterfalls galore. All the natural beauty you can handle is waiting for you after a quick flight to Foz do Iguaçu. Feel free to gawk at the wild splendor on a tour through Iguaçu National Park.

Please note: Based on arrival time to Foz do Iguaçu, activities may be moved to Day 9.

    Today's highlights:

    • Wing your way to Foz do Iguaçu.
    • Take a guided boat tour of Iguaçu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see Iguaçu Falls, one of the world's largest waterfalls.
    • Stretch your legs on a short hike through the jungle.
    • Cross boating through a waterfall off your list of stuff to do. And prepare to get wet.
  • Day 9: Visit Iguazú Falls

Comin’ for ya, Argentina. Today you’re exploring the other side of the national park. Hope you’re into more waterfalls, because Iguazú Falls is a biggie, with three times the flow capacity of Niagara. (And FYI, in Argentina, “Iguaçu” becomes “Iguazú.”)

    Today's highlights:

    • Check another country off the ol’ bucket list as you cross the border to Argentina.
    • Be in three places at once(ish): Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay all border the park.
    • See Iguazú Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world (whoa).
    • Crane your neck at Garganta do Diabo aka Devil’s Throat, the tallest of all the falls.

    Free time suggestions

Bridges of Borders: Check out two bridges that connect three countries, one linking Brazil and Paraguay, and the other connecting Brazil to Argentina.

  • Day 10: Fly to Buenos Aires

Get some rest on your flight from Foz do Iguaçu—the trip will take most of the day, but it’ll be worth it when you set your eyes, ears, and taste buds on Buenos Aires.

    Today's highlights:

    • Fly to Buenos Aires for the next leg of your next adventure. Olé!
    • Get the fiesta started, grab dinner with your travel pals, and see where the night goes.
  • Day 11: Tour Buenos Aires + optional dinner & tango show

Welcome to Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina and the birthplace of tango. This cosmopolitan city is sometimes referred to as “the Paris of South America,” but instead of croissants there’s medialuna, and instead of the Eiffel Tower there’s the Teatro Colón.

    Today's highlights:

    • Take in the architecture and history of Buenos Aires on a guided walk.
    • Decide which of the city’s 48 barrios (neighborhoods) you’ll hit up.
    • Gaze at the Teatro Colón, one of the top opera houses in the world.
    • Admire Casa Rosada, the Argentinian president’s massive pink mansion of an office.

    Free time suggestions

San Telmo: The cobblestone streets of the city’s oldest barrio are lined with antique shops, cafes, and art studios. Head to Plaza Dorrego for some traditional Argentinean dancing.

Nightlife: This city is a night owl’s dream. Hit the town like a true porteño (someone from Buenos Aires) at one of the many bars, clubs, speakeasies, and tango houses.

Dinner, tango show & lessons (extra cost)

Dinner and a tango show—what could be better? Learning the moves yourself, of course.

Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

  • Day 12: Free day + optional bike tour + Farewell Dinner

Experience your last day in Buenos Aires as you please. Pick up some new reads (Buenos Aires has more than 700 bookstores), hop around the diverse barrios, or taste your way through the city. Then, top it all off with one final dinner with your crew.

    Free time suggestions

Paseo del Rosedal: Take a break from the Buenos Aires bustle and wander among 18,000 rose bushes, statues of famous poets, and a charming lake.

Café Tortoni: Try a medialuna, Argentina’s version of a croissant, and wash it down with a cup of freshly roasted coffee at a traditional spot like this famed café.

Buenos Aires bike tour (extra cost)

Hop on a bike, pedal around town, and get to know Buenos Aires from a new POV with a local guide.

  • Day 13–14: Fly home

    ¡Adiós, amigos!
Translation: Goodbye, friends! Your next destination awaits—home. But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

Please note that depending on your flight itinerary, you could land in your home airport on either Day 13 or Day 14.

This was an incredible way to see Brazil and Argentina! The stop in Foz Do Iguazu is absolutely stunning and definitely a highlight of the trip. Both counties have amazing food, very kind people, and are beautiful and unique in their own ways. We were even fortunate enough to experience a soccer game in Rio! I didn’t feel rushed at all during this itinerary.... See more
