Why go?

Spring break in Costa Rica is the exact opposite of sitting in class—unless you can lounge on perfect beaches, zipline through the rainforest, hang with sloths, and live la pura vida in the lecture halls at your school, in which case...where do we apply?

What you'll get

  • 9 nights in handpicked accommodations
  • 9 breakfasts & 2 dinners
  • Kayaking tour and hot springs experience in Arenal
  • Waterfall and cloud forest hikes
  • Beach days at Playa Manta and Manuel Antonio National Park
  • Expert Tour Director
  • 24/7 support

Picture yourself

  • Sipping the best coffee you’ve ever had, right at the source
  • Basking in the sun next to turquoise-blue waters
  • Snapping selfies with sloths, monkeys, and dolphins
  • Ziplining high above the lush Santa Elena Cloud Forest
  • Paddling through the rapids of the Sarapiqui River

Which trip type is right for you?

Essential: Room with 3+ other travelers in conveniently located hostels. For budget-conscious extroverts who love a group moment.

Plus: Room with just one other person in 3- or 4-star hotels. Perfect for people who value privacy and recharging in their own space.

Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to San José

Welcome to San José, Costa Rica, the cultural and political capital of this vibrant, thriving nation. Crack open a coconut and crank up the calypso music, you’re about to get tropical for the next 10 days.

Today’s highlights
  • Land at the airport and meet a waiting EF representative.
  • Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
  • Explore the area as you meet up with your fellow travelers.

Day 2: Travel to Arenal Region + kayak Lake Arenal + Welcome Dinner

The rainforest is filled with secrets and today you get to uncover them. Travel by bus to the Arenal region of Costa Rica, a quaint tropical town known for its steep volcano (fun fact: the last time it was active was 2010). Keep your eyes and ears open as you explore all of Arenal’s mysterious landforms, wildlife, and waters.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot.

Today’s highlights
  • Travel from San José to the Arenal Region and watch the scenery shift from bustling city life to lush, mountainous jungle as you make your way north toward the Arenal Volcano. This region is home to one of Costa Rica’s youngest and most active volcanoes, known for its near-perfect conical shape and surrounding rainforest that thrives in mineral-rich soil.

  • Kayak across the calm, sapphire-blue waters of Lake Arenal—the largest lake in Costa Rica. Keep an eye out for tropical birds like toucans, herons, and flycatchers that swoop between the shoreline trees, and don’t forget to look up at the mighty volcano that looms dramatically above you.

  • Enjoy your Welcome Dinner! Hosted by your Tour Director, this kickoff dinner is all about getting to know the others in your group and easing into the rest of the trip ahead.
