Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Flight
Leave your shamrocks and leprechaun jokes at home, and board your overnight flight, bound for Ireland. You’re about to discover the true allure of the Emerald Isle (and it’s not gemstones).
Day 2: Arrive in Galway + Welcome Dinner
Welcome to Galway, a city famous for entertainment (live music, street performers, and art shows).
In the evening, enjoy the first authentic Irish meal of your trip! Hosted by your Tour Director, this Welcome Dinner is all about meeting your fellow travelers, swapping stories, and easing into the rest of the trip ahead.
- Land at the airport and meet up with your Tour Director and other travelers in your group.
- Transfer to your accommodations to check in and check out your room.
- Get familiar with the area around your hotel with an introductory walk with your Tour Director.
- Get to know your group and your Tour Director at an included Welcome Dinner.
Ask your TD:
- Which pubs the locals actually go to
- The best places to catch live Irish folk music
- Where to get the best spice bag in the city
- If they can point out stone circles and fairy glens
Day 3: Tour Galway
Start with an introductory walk with your Tour Director through Galway, the heart of Ireland’s West Coast, where traditional music spills from pubs, artisan shops line cobbled lanes, and locals love a good story. It’s also the birthplace of the iconic Claddagh ring, so if you’re in the market for the perfect Irish souvenir, Galway is the place to get one!
- Wander the Latin Quarter’s winding streets, filled with brightly painted storefronts, buskers playing Irish folk music, and hidden gems around every corner.
- Explore Galway on your own until you finally succumb to the irresistible smell of boxty (Irish potato pancakes) like a true Galwegian.
- Find out why Galway is nicknamed ‘City of the Tribes’ as you discover the sheer variety of coats of arms on display.
- Pick up an authentic Aran wool sweater to stay warm for the next hikes—but mostly to wear around your apartment this winter.
- Spend the evening enjoying traditional live music in a venue like The Crane Bar or Tig Cóilí, where the craic never stops (and neither do the fiddles).
The Galway Cathedral: The youngest of Europe’s grand stone cathedrals, overlooks the River Corrib and features a blend of styles including Renaissance, Romanesque, and Gothic. It is beautiful by day, but even more stunning when lit by spotlights at night.
The Galway City Museum: This museum features two main sections. The first focuses on the heritage of Galway, giving you some background on the city you’ve been exploring. The other section focuses on Irish artists from the second half of the 20th century.
Eyre Square: The end of the rainbow in Galway leads to Eyre Square, a bustling center of shops, cafes, and art, though no known pot of gold sightings—yet.
McCambridge's Restaurant: In the mood for a deli, and fine foods shop? Check out this spot located in the heart of Galway. This family owned establishment has been around since 1925, and is perfect for Irish people watching.
Day 4: Travel to County Kerry via the Cliffs of Moher
Today you’re leaving Galway behind for the quintessential Irish countryside of County Kerry’s rolling hills, tranquil lakes, and plenty of sheep. On the way, stop at the famed Cliffs of Moher, a UNESCO Global Geopark and a must-see on any Irish adventure. You’ll hike a coastal path with panoramic views, then swing by the immersive Visitor Centre to learn more about the region’s geology, wildlife, and folklore.
- Board your private bus from Galway to County Kerry, taking in the pristine Irish countryside (and many of the country’s nearly 4 million cutie sheep) along the way.
- Gawk at the Cliffs of Moher—limestone walls of rock that dominate the coast for five miles and rise to staggering heights of 700 feet.
- Spot puffins on the cliffs, if you’re lucky enough to be there during their breeding seasons between late March and early August.
- Continue on to County Kerry and enjoy some free time in the evening.
County Kerry pubs: County Kerry is known for its raucous pub scene. Locals and visitors alike drink and sing with the bar band well into the wee hours of morning.
Irish cuisine: The Irish know their comfort food. Try the shepherd’s pie, bacon and cabbage, or Guinness beef stew. While corned beef and cabbage is often associated with Irish cuisine, it’s actually an Irish-American adaptation and not commonly eaten in Ireland.
Day 5: Sightseeing Tour of the Ring of Kerry
Clear your camera roll as you traverse the must-see Ring of Kerry, a legendary 111ish-mile route that puts Ireland’s wild, rugged beauty and coastal magic front and center. At every turn you'll encounter wild landscapes, castles and ruins, charming towns, and stunning ocean views. Mother Nature didn’t mess around when she created the Ring of Kerry.
- Encounter magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Lakes of Killarney, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, and more.
- Pick your jaw off the floor after a day of unreal views and head back to County Kerry for a free night.
Irish Whiskey Experience: The Irish Whiskey Experience in Killarney is the perfect masterclass for aficionados and newcomers alike. Buy a ticket and sign up for a class of your choice—from taste-tests to cheese plate pairings.
Killarney National Park: Need more outdoors time? Take a visit to the wondrous expanse of Killarney National Park where you’ll find mountains, castles, woodlands, and waterfalls all in one beautiful place.
Day 6: Travel to Dublin via Blarney Castle
En route to Dublin, stop for a visit to the top of the famed Blarney Castle and bend over backwards to kiss the famous Blarney Stone and receive the gift of gab. Then, it’s on to Ireland’s capital, where the culture is richer than Kerrygold, Guinness flows like the Liffey, and the locals make it nearly impossible not to feel right at home. You’ll also find that this city is super walkable, so once you arrive and drop off your bags, take a stroll to St. Stephen’s Green, Grafton Street, and Temple Bar, the intersection of pub culture, literary history, and all-around charm.
- Stretch your legs—and your lips—at Blarney Castle. Legend has it that those who smooch the namesake stone are bestowed with that iconic Irish trait: great eloquence of speech, also called the gift of gab. But the magic doesn’t stop at the stone—the castle’s grounds are a hidden gem, featuring a serene lake and the intriguing Poison Garden, home to a collection of toxic plants found in the wild.
- Watch the emerald hills roll along as you head from countryside to city.
- Arrive in Dublin and check in to your accommodation.
- Meet your Tour Director for a guided tour of some top sights, including the Temple Bar neighborhood, St. Stephens Green park, and Grafton Street.
Day 7: Celebrate St. Paddy's Day in Dublin
Wake up early and get out there. Today is totally free for you to celebrate the big day however you want. You want to wear green? Do it. You want to drink beer? Absolutely. You want to put on your best accent and hope an Irish family mistakes you for one of their own? Um…sure!
- Brave the crowds and make your way to the St. Patrick's Day parade where you’ll start at Parnell Square and proceed down O'Connell Street, over O'Connell Bridge, and then through to the south side of the city.
- Partake in one of the oldest and most popular St. Patrick's Day traditions: singing, dancing, and sláinte-ing with strangers.
- Spill out into the streets and join in the fun with some traditional Irish singing and dancing (or just watch from the sidelines—equally entertaining).
Day 8: Sightseeing Tour of Dublin
Founded over 1,000 years ago by Vikings, Dublin comes from the Irish Dubh Linn, or “black pool” in Irish. From its Nordic roots to literary legends like Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker (and Sally Rooney, obv), and the city’s pivotal role in gaining independence from Britain, Dublin’s history is as rich as its lively streets. Today you’ll see the best of Dublin with a local guide, then enjoy a free afternoon to do as you fancy.
In the evening, share some last laughs and revisit the best moments of the trip at an included Farewell Dinner with your group. Sláinte!
- Pass by the grand Dublin Castle, where medieval power, royal ceremony, and Irish history intersect.
- Enter Trinity College, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious universities, home to the storied library.
- See the Book of Kells, a pristine 1,200-year-old illustrated collection of biblical stories—up close.
- Visit the Guinness Storehouse for a crash course in the history of Ireland’s signature beer. Then, let it all soak in high above Dublin with pints at Gravity Bar.
- Enjoy your fresh pint of Guinness the proper way so you can truly taste all the malty goodness: sniff the aroma, take a sip, let it sit on your tongue for a few seconds, then swallow.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral: Visit the 800-year-old church named after Ireland’s patron saint who brought Christianity to the country in the 5th century. And yes, he’s THE St. Paddy honored every March 17.
Jameson Distillery: Sick of stout? Switch things up in favor of the strong stuff with a guided tour and whiskey tasting at the Jameson Distillery Bow St.
Day 9: Fly Home
Slán libh, a cháirde!
Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

FAQ
The Emerald Isle is calling, book the trip! We recommend booking as soon as possible, this not only secures your spot on the trip, it also allows you the most time to pay for your trip. The closer we get to departure the more challenging securing your reservation becomes.
Get ready to fall in love with rolling green hills, cozy pubs, and the kind of charm that only Ireland can deliver. From the buzzing streets of Dublin to the rugged cliffs of the Wild Atlantic Way, this island is packed with postcard-perfect views and rich cultural vibes. You’ll explore ancient castles, hear live music spilling out of every corner, and maybe even pick up a bit of the local lingo over a pint of Guinness. Whether you're wandering through the colorful streets of Galway or road-tripping through the dramatic landscapes of County Kerry, Ireland is all about stories, scenery, and spontaneous adventure.
The weather? Let’s just say it keeps things interesting. Expect mild temps year-round, with spring and summer bringing longer days and bursts of wildflowers, while fall and winter offer misty mornings and cozy sweater weather. The east is home to lively cities and historic landmarks, while the west is where nature turns up the drama with cliffs, beaches, and endless green. Ireland is made for travelers who want a mix of culture, nature, and a little magic—plus, it’s basically impossible not to make a few new friends along the way.
Originally, St. Patrick’s Day was a day to observe the death of St. Patrick. Today, the holiday is a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and all the green you can imagine! You should note that celebrating a holiday in the place of its origin can almost guarantee one thing: Crowds. Prepare to party with crowds of people from all over the world. Read on for more tips to stay safe and make the most of your time in Ireland:
- Your belongings: Wear a cross-body bag to deter pick-pocketing, and keep each other accountable for your things. Remember the big three: Phone, (hotel) key, wallet!
- Lines: Big crowds typically mean big lines. Be prepared to wait in line for the bar, the bathroom, the bus, a taxi, and more. Use your wait time to get to know fellow travelers and compare each other’s green garb!
- Money: We recommend carrying only as much cash as you plan to spend during the party, and one credit/debit card. Leave backup cash and cards in the hotel for safekeeping.
- Buddy system: Use the buddy system. Stay in groups and watch out for each other. No one gets left behind!
- Phone: Bring a portable charger with you, or fully charge your phone before the day begins as you’ll likely be away from the hotel for the whole day!
- Clothing: Wear comfortable shoes, layers, and don’t forget the green! People go all out with beads, face paint, and more on St. Patrick’s Day so don’t be afraid to get creative!
- Pace yourself: St. Patrick’s Day is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself as you partake in the festivities, and remember that you’ll be happier you made the most of your holiday in Ireland, rather than forget the whole thing.

On this trip you'll use the Euro. Keep in mind that if you visit Northern Ireland, you will need to exchange for Pounds, as Northern Ireland does not use the Euro. We strongly advise that you take debit and credit cards (ideally with a chip), which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed. Make sure to check with your bank or credit card company about withdrawal fees and/or foreign exchange fees. While better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, ordering currency from your local bank may be an option.
On Essential trips, roommates are assigned randomly unless a specific roommate is requested in advance, you can do this at the time of booking or in your online account up to 60 days before departure. Rooms may accommodate 4+ travelers of the same gender. Please note that rooming upgrades and mixed gender rooming are not available.
Ireland is considered safe for travelers, but like any destination, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings and follow basic safety guidelines. Pickpocketing can occur, especially in crowded areas or tourist hotspots. Keep your belongings secure and be cautious with strangers offering unsolicited help or deals.
Here are a few additional points:
- Health and Safety: Talking with your healthcare provider about any vaccinations or medication you may want to consider. Here are some additional tips for traveling with medication and traveling with allergies.
- International Data Plan: In the event you need to get in touch with your Tour Director or Ultimate Break while abroad, it’s important to invest in an international data plan. Call your cell phone provider to understand their plans or look into purchasing a sim card.
- Transportation Safety: When getting a taxi, make sure to agree on a price before getting in. At the end of a night out, use trusted transportation like a licensed taxi, Uber of Uber like service, and always have cash on hand.

- Manage your own luggage (including carrying luggage upstairs if no elevator)
- Climb occasional stairs, hills and navigate various terrains (think cobblestones) to different sites
