Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight flight to Australia
Your trip officially begins the moment you board—suitcase zipped, passport handy, and the excitement of two weeks of sunshine, surf, and culture ahead. Use this time to rest, binge a show, or start jotting down a mental must-see list—either way, Australia here you come.
Day 2: Continue your journey
Keep flying, keep snoozing. Think of this as more time to unplug and binge those shows you’ve been meaning to watch. Tomorrow, the real adventure begins.
Day 3: Arrive in Brisbane + Welcome Dinner
Touch down in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, and a city that radiates easygoing energy. Known as “Brissie” by locals, this riverfront gem blends skyscrapers with subtropical parks, creative laneways, and a climate that stays warm nearly year-round. Today is all about arriving, stretching your legs on a guided walk, and savoring your first taste of Aussie hospitality at a group Welcome Dinner.
- Arrive at the airport to meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers as they arrive.
- Transfer to your hotel to check into your accommodation.
- Head out on an afternoon walking tour to get your bearings and learn what the city has to offer, like the bustling Queen Street Mall, leafy South Bank Parklands, and hidden laneways filled with street art and quirky shops. Along the way, you’ll learn about Brisbane’s colonial past and modern rise as a hub for arts, dining, and outdoor living.
- Enjoy your Welcome Dinner! Hosted by your Tour Director, this kickoff dinner is all about getting to know the others in your group and easing into the rest of the trip ahead.
Wheel of Brisbane: If you still have energy, check out this giant observation wheel on South Bank that offers sparkling nighttime views of the skyline. It’s a relaxed but memorable way to get oriented.
Ask your Tour Director:
- Why Australians call themselves “Aussies” and the history behind their famous slang words. (Hint: they shorten everything.)
- Which Aussie animals you’re most likely to spot in the wild—and the myths vs. realities about kangaroos, koalas, and crocodiles.
- The history of the Sydney Opera House and how its unique design was almost never built.
- Why Australians are obsessed with meat pies, flat whites, and Tim Tams—and where to find the best versions locally.
Day 4: Day trip to Moreton Island
Ready for sand dunes, shipwrecks, and crystal-clear water? Moreton Island, just a short ferry ride from Brisbane, is one of the largest sand islands in the world and a playground for adventurers. Today you’ll snorkel among sunken ships, paddle over coral in transparent kayaks, and feel the adrenaline of sandboarding down towering dunes.
- Snorkel the famous Tangalooma Shipwrecks, a cluster of sunken vessels that now host thriving marine life. Glide through schools of tropical fish, spot vibrant coral, and keep your eyes peeled for sea turtles—it’s like swimming through a living aquarium.
- Try transparent kayaking, a one-of-a-kind way to float above the wrecks without ever dipping your head underwater. Watching fish dart beneath your boat while paddling in calm turquoise water is equal parts serene and surreal.
- Channel your inner daredevil on the island’s giant sand dunes, racing down at speeds up to 40 mph. The soft sand makes for a thrilling but safe ride, and the desert-like landscape is an unexpected contrast to the island’s beaches.
Brisbane River: Take an evening stroll along the river, watching the city lights reflect off the water and locals bike, jog, or relax in open-air cafes. The waterfront pathways make it easy to explore without a plan, and it’s a gentle way to wind down your first night.
Day 5: Travel to Gold Coast via Mt. Tamborine
Leave Brisbane behind and make your way south to the Gold Coast, a region famous for its surf beaches, nightlife, and subtropical hinterland. Along the way, you’ll stop at Mt. Tamborine, a mountain village surrounded by rainforest that feels worlds away from the city. Think glowworm caves, boutique wineries, and breathtaking views before arriving in your next seaside destination.
- Journey to Mt. Tamborine for a short rainforest walk under towering trees, with the calls of native birds echoing around you. The crisp mountain air and lush greenery make it a refreshing pause.
- Visit the region’s glowworm caves, where thousands of tiny bioluminescent creatures light up the dark walls like a natural galaxy. It’s equal parts magical and educational, offering a glimpse into one of Australia’s unique ecosystems.
- Stop at a local winery for a tasting, sampling wines grown in the fertile volcanic soils of the region. It’s a moment to slow down and sip, all while surrounded by rolling hills and panoramic views.
Day 6: Day trip to Byron Bay + optional surf lesson
This morning, head to Byron Bay, a coastal town known for its free-spirited vibe, iconic lighthouse, and world-class surf. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning riding waves, the afternoon shopping at indie boutiques, and the evening watching dolphins at sunset.
- Take a scenic drive into Byron Bay, soaking up rolling hills and ocean views along the way. The road into town sets the tone: relaxed, artsy, and effortlessly cool.
- Explore Byron at your own pace, from walking up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse to browsing markets filled with boho jewelry, art, and handmade goods. The whole town radiates that “good vibes only” energy.
Food to try: Grab a fresh smoothie bowl or Aussie-style brunch at one of Byron’s trendy cafes—it’s practically a rite of passage here.
Cape Byron walking trail: If you prefer nature, hit the trail to Cape Byron for sweeping views over the ocean and a chance to stand at Australia’s easternmost point. Keep an eye out for dolphins or even migrating whales if you’re lucky.
Beach time: Spend some beach time simply soaking in Byron’s mellow rhythm. Lying on the sand here feels like pressing pause on the outside world.
Day 7: Free day in Gold Coast + optional Springbrook waterfall & natural bridge rainforest visit
Today is all yours—whether you want to embrace the Gold Coast’s famous beaches, dive into the city’s nightlife, or explore the nearby UNESCO-listed Gondwana rainforests on an optional half-day excursion. Whatever you choose, this day is about creating your own perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
For those staying local, spend the day beach-hopping along the Gold Coast. From the surf breaks of Snapper Rocks to the chill vibe of Burleigh Heads, there’s a stretch of sand for every mood.
The evening is yours to explore Surfers Paradise nightlife, whether that’s dancing to live music, grabbing rooftop cocktails, or sharing beachside fish and chips with new friends.
Rent a bike: Cruise along the Gold Coast Oceanway, a 22-mile path that hugs the shoreline and offers unbeatable views.
SkyPoint observation deck: Take in panoramic views while perched atop one of the tallest residential towers in the Southern Hemisphere.
Explore Pacific Fair: Stroll this sprawling shopping center where global brands meet Aussie designers—perfect if you need a fashion refresh.
Day 8: Flight to Cairns
Say goodbye to the city lights of Brisbane and the Gold Coast and say hello to the tropical north as you fly to Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. This vibrant hub mixes laid-back beach-town energy with big adventure opportunities. After landing and transferring to your hotel, you’ll have time to get acquainted with this tropical city and prepare for the natural wonders that await.
Take a flight north, watching the scenery change from cityscapes to coastline to lush rainforest as you approach Cairns.
Get settled into your hotel, where palm trees and warm breezes instantly signal that you’ve entered a different pace of life.
Day 9: Great Barrier Reef day trip
This is a big one: a full-day trip to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders. You’ll sail from Port Douglas into turquoise waters, where you’ll snorkel, swim, and marvel at a kaleidoscope of coral and tropical fish. It’s a day that will stay with you forever—equal parts relaxing and awe-inspiring.
Cruise across sparkling waters on your way to the outer reef, soaking up ocean views along the way.
Dive into the underwater world, where clownfish dart through coral gardens and giant clams rest on the seabed.
Learn from marine biologists onboard about reef conservation and how this fragile ecosystem is protected.
Relax on deck between swims with the sun on your face and the reef stretching endlessly around you.
Day 10: Free day in Cairns + optional hot-air balloon ride + Aussie BBQ dinner

Start with an optional sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Atherton Tablelands, where mist rises over rolling hills and rainforest. Later, choose to keep the adrenaline flowing with more excursions or keep it low-key in town. In the evening, gather with your group for a classic Aussie BBQ dinner—grilled to perfection and full of local flavor.
Spend the day your way, whether that’s chasing waterfalls in the rainforest or kicking back by the lagoon.
End the day with an Aussie BBQ dinner, complete with grilled favorites, cold drinks, and good vibes.
Skyrail rainforest cableway: Glide above the Barron Gorge National Park and visit the mountain village of Kuranda for a closer trek into the tropical rainforest.
Rusty’s markets: Hunt for souvenirs, fresh tropical fruit, handmade crafts, and homegrown coffee at this fave chain trusted by locals.
Day 11: Fly to Sydney
Today you leave tropical Queensland behind and head to Australia’s most iconic city: Sydney. After a 3ish hour flight, you’ll land in a place where sparkling harbors meet world-famous architecture and a buzzing cultural scene. With your included Opal card, you’ll be ready to explore the city’s ferries, trains, and buses like a local.
Catch your flight from Cairns to Sydney and take in the contrast as you trade rainforest skies for an urban skyline.
Get settled in your hotel before setting out to explore on your own with your 3-day Opal card.
Newtown: As Sydney’s coolest neighborhood, this area is perfect for those in search of their eclectic side. Check out King Street for indie bookshops, thrift stores, and hip bars. Or catch some live music at the Enmore Theatre.
