Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight flight

Buckle up for your overnight flight—next stop: Europe! Catch some zzz’s, dream of gondolas, castles, and snowy Alps, and wake up ready to dive into four bucket-list countries.

Day 2: Arrive in Venice + Welcome Dinner

Benvenuti a Venezia! The Floating City is a masterpiece of sparkling canals, over 400 bridges, and centuries-old history—we’re talking over 1,600 years. Get ready to glide down the Grand Canal in a gondola (an iconic experience you have to do at least once), get lost in the maze-like streets, and admire the grand palaces that seem to rise right out of the water.

In the evening, enjoy your Welcome Dinner! Hosted by your Tour Director, this kickoff dinner is all about meeting your fellow travelers and easing into the rest of the trip ahead.

Today’s highlights
  • Arrive at the airport to meet your fellow travelers and your Tour Director.
  • Venture into Venice proper or see the area surrounding your accommodation.
  • Head to the classic spots like St Mark’s Square, or the Rialto bridge in the evening for no crowds, just magic.
  • Get to know your group at an included Welcome Dinner of authentic cuisine at a local restaurant.
Free time suggestions
Ask Your Tour Director
  • For the perfect time and spot to ride a gondola.
  • If you can row the gondola. It's possible, thanks to our special partnership with Row Venice (see FAQ).
  • About the local pastime of andar per bacari: Aka going from bacaro to bacaro (wine bar) to sip inexpensive local wines and prosecco and trying cicchetti—Venetian tapas.
  • How to beat the lines and see inside St Mark’s basilica to look at 900 years of Venetian art and history.
  • To visit to colorful Burano for a picture-perfect afternoon and lunch (extra cost)
  • When to hit the local markets: The most famous, the Rialto Mercato, is right on the Grand Canal and is open six days per week.
  • When to go to the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore: This world-famous bookstore is just a few minutes' walk from St Mark’s square and is beloved as a unique, chaotic spot in the heart of Venice.
  • How to get to the best viewpoints: To see the city from high up, head to St. Mark's Campanile or the Fondaco dei Tedeschi rooftop terrace for views of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge, and the Ponte dell'Accademia for a famous perspective of the Grand Canal. At street level, the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs are iconic.
  • Where to buy locally made souvenirs that support the community and local producers, like Murano glass, Burano lace, and journals or stationery.

Venice extension

Venice is the perfect city to get lost in—and arriving early gives you the time to do just that, all with the support of your Tour Director. Early arrivals will receive a three-day Vaporetto Pass, which provides unlimited rides on Venice’s unique public ferry system, giving you access to both the main island and neighboring spots like Murano, Burano, and San Giorgio Maggiore. You’ll also receive a Venice City Pass, granting entry to some of the city's top cultural sights like Doge’s Palace, the St. Mark’s Square Museums, and Museo Correr.

Day 1: Overnight flight

Settle in and rest easy on your overnight flight to Italy—you’ve got three full days ahead to ease into life in Venice. Buona notte!

Day 2: Arrive in Venice

Benvenuti a Venezia! Meet your Tour Director and fellow early arrivals, then check into your accommodations. Afterward, your Tour Director will lead a quick walking tour to help you get your bearings. They'll also show you how to use the Vaporetto Pass and Venice City Pass so you can make the most of your time in the Floating City.

Free time suggestions

San Giorgio Maggiore: Hop on the Vaporetto to the neighboring island San Giorgio Maggiore and climb to the top of the Campanile (bell tower) for a stunning bird’s-eye view of Venice and the Grand Canal.

Day 3: Free day or optional Venetian island hopping

Today you're free as a pigeon in St. Mark’s Square (but pls don’t steal anyone’s gelato). You can opt to spend the day exploring Venice’s islands on an excursion just for early arrivals, or use your passes to discover Venice at your own pace.

Free time suggestions

Thrift shopping: Need a new 'fit for the Welcome Dinner? Venice has great thrift spots—our travelers' favorites include Vintageria Venezia and Maranteghe | Vintage.

Day 4: Free day

What’s on today’s agenda? Souvenir shopping at Rialto Market? Panoramic views from the top of the famous Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo spiral staircase? Maybe one more gondola ride? Tomorrow, the rest of your group arrives—so take this time to fully enjoy your solo adventures and soak up the magic of Venice.

Day 5: Free day + Welcome Dinner

It’s your last free day in Venice before the rest of your group arrives—feeling like a local yet? Grab an espresso (or go full vacation mode with an affogato), enjoy the calm before the whirlwind, and tick off any last must-dos.

In the evening, get to know your fellow travelers during your Welcome Dinner. Tomorrow (Day 3 of the main itinerary) you’ll all kick off the first full day of your main trip.

This was my first time traveling with EF, but it definitely will not be my last! If your Tour Director is Jos, you'll have the best time. He planned extra excursions for the group (cooking class in Salzburg & Burano Island in Venice) and made sure there were food options for me...

Honestly I didn’t know what I was coming into since it was my first time out of the country and alone at that. But as soon as I arrived I was met with so many wonderful people, I left with a great group of friends. I’m BEYOND grateful for my tour guide GiGi , he was phenomenal,...
