The Irish Way of Welcoming You: A Spotlight on the Irish Tour Director Community

With every step of the journey, Ultimate Break’s Irish Tour Directors transform facts into feeling and landscapes into living narratives, revealing the heart and soul of their home.

There must be something in the water in Ireland. It has been stated time and time again that Ultimate Break’s Irish Tour Directors are amongst the most lively, knowledgeable, and captivating members of our EF global community. Although all of these skills are crucial for Ultimate Break Tour Directors, the Irish Tour Directors have the gift of bringing Ireland to life through storytelling. And storytelling isn’t just a skill in Ireland—it’s a birthright.

I had the pleasure of having Diarmuid, an EF Tour Director, lead my group trip in June of 2025. He sprinkled in Celtic history, telling stories of how the Irish claim things came to be. Whether that be personal anecdotes, passed down from generation to generation, or local folklore, he made each story effortlessly enthralling. One traveler said in a review about Diarmuid, “His knowledge of history and storytelling were such a blast to listen to. He made everything about the transitions from one place [or] activity to the next seamless and was spot on with his recommendations.” I could not agree more.

These stories are not just for mere entertainment, rather, a way the Irish connect the people, the land, and the past to create a sense of community. Our Irish Tour Directors do more than guide, they welcome. They don’t merely recite history; they breathe life into it. Another traveler who went on a tour with Tour Director Marco said, “Marco was an absolute delight! He was funny, great with stories, gave historical facts, mythological stories, gave great suggestions for places to check out, [and] helped navigate. This was my first international travel, and I was alone, but Marco really helped make this experience an unforgettable occasion!” That’s what it’s all about. Reminding everyone that that travel, at its best, is not about checking destinations off a list. It’s about connection—across cultures, across time, and from one human being to another.

The communal feeling that the Irish Tour Directors share spreads from within their own Tour Director community out into the world. They welcome you into their country and their community. I personally felt this during my business trip to Ireland earlier this year when my Tour Director invited other local Irish Tour Directors to join us during an outing in Dublin. Seeing the Tour Directors chat like old friends and inviting you into the conversation truly made me feel welcomed into their sphere. Ultimate Break staff member, Kathy, who works closely with the Tour Director community agrees, “Tour Directors showcase the strength of Irish community not through speeches but through everyday connection. Their warmth is authentic, and their generosity of spirit is palpable.”

According to the Irish Tour Directors, Ireland is not simply a destination. It becomes an experience of warmth, wisdom, and wonder—and one that stays with you long after the road has ended.
