Ibiza trips

Spanish is the official language, though you’ll hear Catalan and Ibizan (Eivissenc) too. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, but a few phrases go a long way: 

• Hola: Hello 

• Gracias: Thank you 

• Por favor: Please 

• Perdona: Excuse me 

• ¿Dónde está...?: Where is...? 

• La cuenta, por favor: The check, please 

• Una cerveza, por favor: A beer, please 

• Salud: Cheers

Ibiza has two speeds: the party and the pause. Both are worth experiencing. A few things to know: 

• The island runs late. Dinner starts at 9pm at the earliest. Clubs don’t fill up until 2am. If you’re trying to keep up with local hours, plan your sleep accordingly. 

• There’s a quieter side. Beyond the clubs and beach bars, Ibiza has whitewashed villages, olive groves, and hidden coves that feel a world away from the nightlife. Seek them out. 

• Sun protection is non-negotiable. The Mediterranean sun is intense. Sunscreen, hats, and shade breaks are not optional. 

• Tipping is appreciated but not expected. Rounding up or leaving 5-10% is standard. No pressure beyond that. 

• Water taxis and ferries connect the island. Getting between beaches and towns by boat is common and often the most enjoyable way to travel. 

• Respect the environment. Ibiza’s natural beauty is protected in many areas. Stay on marked paths, don’t leave rubbish on beaches, and treat the island well.

Ibiza’s food scene has grown up alongside its reputation—there’s a lot more going on than beach bar snacks: 

• Bullit de peix: The island’s traditional fisherman’s stew, made with whatever came in that morning. Find it at a local restaurant away from the main tourist strips. 

• Sofrit pagès: A hearty Ibizan meat and potato stew—the kind of dish that’s been feeding islanders for generations. 

• Fresh seafood: Grilled fish, gambas, calamari—the closer to the port, the fresher it is. 

• Hierbas ibicencas: A local herbal liqueur made from wild plants native to the island. Sweet, aromatic, and very Ibiza. Have it after dinner. 

• Beach club food: Ibiza’s beach clubs have invested heavily in their menus. Ceviche, sushi, and fresh salads alongside the cocktails. 

• Local markets: The street markets aren’t just for shopping—grab fresh produce, local cheeses, and homemade jams while you browse.

Ibiza rewards both the party-seeker and the curious explorer: 

• Dalt Vila: The UNESCO-listed old town of Ibiza, perched on a hilltop inside ancient walls. Winding streets, great views, and a completely different energy from the beach clubs below. 

• The beach clubs: Blue Marlin, O Beach, Nikki Beach—Ibiza’s beach clubs are world-famous for good reason. Pick one and commit to the day. 

• The street markets: Las Dalias on Saturdays is the most famous, but Sant Jordi’s flea market and Punta Arabí are equally worth your time. 

• A catamaran cruise: The best way to see Ibiza’s coastline, hidden coves, and crystal-clear water is from the water itself. 

• Es Vedrà: A dramatic rocky island off the southwest coast, surrounded by myths and legends. The views at sunset are extraordinary. 

• Formentera: A 30-minute ferry ride from Ibiza and one of the most beautiful small islands in the Mediterranean. Day trip essential. 

• The nightlife: Whether it’s a sunset set at a terrace bar or a full night at one of the world-famous clubs, Ibiza’s music scene is genuinely unlike anywhere else.

Ibiza is more layered than its party reputation suggests: 

• A bohemian history: Long before the clubs, Ibiza attracted artists, hippies, and free spirits in the 1960s and 70s. That creative, countercultural energy still runs through the island’s DNA. 

• Music is central: Ibiza is the global capital of electronic music. The DJs, the clubs, the open-air parties—music isn’t just entertainment here, it’s the whole point. 

• The natural world: Ibiza has pine forests, salt flats, and protected marine areas. The island takes its environment seriously, and so should you. 

• A slower, local pace: Away from the tourist areas, Ibiza moves slowly. Villages, farms, and fishing communities that have been here for centuries exist quietly alongside the global party scene. 

• Spiritual traditions: Ibiza has long attracted people seeking something beyond the ordinary. Yoga retreats, wellness centers, and a general openness to alternative ways of living are part of the island’s character.

Ibiza is primarily a warm-weather destination, and the season matters a lot: 

• Late Spring (May-June): The island wakes up, the weather is warm, and the crowds haven’t fully arrived yet. A great window for beach clubs, markets, and exploring without the peak-season intensity. 

• Summer (July-August): Peak Ibiza. The clubs are in full swing, the beaches are packed, and the energy is at maximum. Book everything well in advance and expect higher prices. 

• Early Fall (September-October): The sweet spot. Summer crowds thin out, the sea is still warm from months of sun, and the island settles into a more relaxed rhythm. September is arguably the best month to visit. 

• Winter (November-April): Most clubs and tourist businesses close. The island is quiet, local, and genuinely peaceful. Not the Ibiza most people come for, but a completely different and worthwhile experience.
