Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Flight
Hope you brought a book, preferably an Emily Henry one, duh, because you’re on your way to Croatia! With 1,246 islands and over 2,500 miles of coastline, there's only one proper way to see it all—by private boat. Just think of all the reading you’ll get done and deep convos you’ll have on the deck.
Day 2: Arrive in Split + Welcome Dinner
Welcome to Croatia! Today, you'll have some time to adjust, explore Split, the second-largest city in Croatia, and get to know your fellow shipmates (who might just become the Alex to your Poppy) before your cruise begins on Day 5. As you take in the old and new of Split this is your chance to get amped up for what’s to come.
In the evening, enjoy your Welcome Dinner, hosted by your Tour Director, where you can chat about all your favorite EmHen novels and debate which book boyfriend is the one for you over local cuisine and Croatian wine with your new bookish besties.
- Meet an EF representative at the airport.
- Transfer to your accommodation and check in.
- Receive the latest schedule from your Tour Director, which mostly consists of beaches and boats.
- Stroll through Split’s buzzing city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 3: Tour Split + Optional Krka National Park & Waterfalls
Split’s layers of history feel like stepping through a well-loved story—and you'll see it all on a guided tour of the city. Because it was the under the rule of many empires, including Roman and Austro-Hungarian, the culture, architecture, and food speaks to the varying styles.
- Take a guided tour of Split led by your Tour Director.
- Visit The Old Town, where things are so well-preserved, it's like you traveled back centuries.
- Spend the afternoon on your own, climbing Marajan Hill for a fantastic view of the city.
- Go to one of Split's many awesome beaches.
Reading time: Enjoy your free afternoon on the boat or find a cafe with a view (not hard) and soak up some quiet time with your book.
Picigin Please: Invented in Split (so they say), this is a fun game to play as you splash around in the water. How do you win? By preventing the ball from falling into the water by passing it to other players—and doing so in the most artistic way possible.
Strukli to me: A popular Croatian dish, made of dough and various types of filling. It's delicious and a must-try as you stroll through Split.
Day 4: Free Day in Split or Optional Bosnia & Herzegovina Day Trip
Spend your free day on an optional excursion to Bosnia and Herzegovina's most beautiful city. Or enjoy one of Split's beautiful beaches. Your choice. There are no wrong answers.
- Lay on the somewhat rocky—yet still amazing—beach.
- Hit up some of the tasty eateries in Split.
- Take an optional excursion to Mostar and discover a blend of Ottoman and Turkish history.
- View the iconic Old Bridge, originally built in 1566, bombed in 1993, and rebuilt in 2004.
Day 5: Board your cruise + swimming + arrive in Makarska
The time has come to embrace Poppy’s ideology, “Some people are born to be everywhere,” and board your Croatian cruise ship! Grab your SPF, your book, and get ready to set sail.
Note: For some departures, docking in Makarska may occur on Day 10.
- Board your boat and catch sun on the deck, nap in your cabin, and meet the crew of your vessel.
- Grab a drink on the seaside promenade in Makarska, where you’ll dock for the night.
- Walk through Makarska’s picturesque villages.
Moshin' Makarska: All summer long, Makarska hosts concerts featuring well-known stars and local artists. Many are even free, and take place right outside in town squares.
Where art thou?: Split has inspired some splendid artists throughout the centuries. Check out the Meštrovic Gallery for 20th-century sculptures; Studio Naranca and the Jaman Gallery for locals' interpretation of their home.
Day 6: Cruise from Makarska to Mljet + on-board Captain’s dinner
Start your day with a morning swim in Peliješac. Afterwards, set sail to Mljet, home to the legendary Cave of Odysseus. Take a scenic stop at Mljet National Park for some quality time with Mother Nature. Tonight, you’ll sit down with your group and captain for an included dinner on board.
- Dive into the blue waters on your way to Mljet.
- Explore Mljet's salt lakes and charming churches by bike or by foot.
- Discover the Mljet National Park and find hidden gems like Odysseus’ cave.
- Get to meet and greet the person who’s been driving you around at an included four-course dinner with captain of your ship.
Day 7: Cruise to Dubrovnik
Located on the Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik is one of Croatia's top vacation destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In just one look, you'll see why playwright George Bernard Shaw described it as "Heaven on Earth.”
- Set sail from Mljet for a morning of relaxation and sunbathing on board.
- Get acquainted with Dubrovnik during a tour led by a local guide.
- Walk along the ancient city walls that protected an ancient civilization for unbeatable views and an actually enjoyable history lesson.
- Sip on Croatia’s finest wines, and describe them with phrases like “full-bodied” and “unctuous.”
Drink and know things: Game of Thrones tours run aplenty in Dubrovnik, whether self-guided or locally led. See where crews filmed King's Landing, the Purple Wedding, the House of the Undying, the walk of shame-shame-shame, and many more notable sights.
Catch a view: The Dubrovnik Cable Car will take you to the top of Srd Hill for breathtaking views of the city and country below. Pro tip: Save money by buying a one-way ticket from the operator, then take the leisurely, scenic hike back down.
Day 8: Free Day in Dubrovnik or Optional Day Trip to Montenegro
Choose your own adventure with a free day in Dubrovnik or check another country off your bucket list and join an optional day trip to Montenegro.
- Enjoy a free day to take in the atmosphere as you visit a local tavern, winery, or whatever your heart (or taste buds) desires.
- Visit beautiful churches and towers while exploring the island or take a swim in the crystal clear water.
- Join your group for an optional visit to Montenegro.
Day 9: Cruise to Korcula
Today, you’re headed to Korcula (KOR-choo-la), a historic, fortified town with architecture spanning all the way back to the 13th century. Rich in vineyards, olive groves, small villages, and sandy beaches, this island is sure to steal your heart.
- Set sail for Korcula after breakfast and enjoy a guided tour upon arrival.
- Climb over the ancient walls and fortified bastions to the old town, or just walk in.
- Geek over Gothic-Renaissance styled St. Mark’s Cathedral, the highest point on the peninsula.
- Eat dinner with a view at one of the many seafront restaurants and konobas.
Marco! Polo!: Korcula is rumored to be the birthplace of the legendary world traveler. Though not confirmed, you can visit what is believed to be his birth home. But please, keep your voice down. Shouting "Marco Polo" won’t make him appear.
Croatian wine: Two of Croatia's most popular wines are grown on this island: Grk (yup, it's spelled like that) and Posip. Pair either with fresh fish or mussels for the perfect Mediterranean meal.
Day 10: Cruise around Hvar Town
Hvar town is all the buzz in Croatia (and just, Europe in general), due to the epic nightlife, Renaissance-era architecture, theaters, restaurants, and endless other activities fit for paradise. It's big, it's loud, it's beautiful, and it's guaranteed to show you a good time. That's why it's your next stop.
Note: For some departures, docking in Hvar may occur on Day 5.
- Lounge on the boat in the morning and cannonball into the Adriatic.
- Dock in Hvar, Croatia’s premier party spot, and take a walk around the town with your Tour Director.
- Walk the marble streets and take in Gothic Palaces while taste testing the local wine and beer.
- Join the never-ending party that happens at night in Hvar town in true carpe diem style.
Hvar Fortress: The Hvar Fortress (Tvrdava Španjola) was built in 1579 and stands tall today. Climb to the top for an epic lookout—try your best to time it with the sunset.
Nightlife: When summer rolls around, Hvar comes alive like nowhere else. You'll have a plethora of palatable options for places to eat, drink, dance, catch live music, and visit art festivals—all after it gets dark.
Day 11: Cruise to Split + Farewell Dinner
Spend your morning swimming & soaking up your last day of cruisin' in paradise. After lunch on board, cruise back to Split for some free time in the port before your Farewell Dinner. Take advantage of the swim spots on the journey back and get in your last GoPro videos and clear-water pics.
- Soak in the sun and just keep swimming during your last day on board.
- Enjoy one last night on the boat and give a toast to the crystal clear waters and the never-ending Croatian fun.
- Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included Farewell Dinner with the group.
Diocletian’s Palace: Curious to see inside the humble abode of a Roman Emperor? Check out the ruins dating back to late 3rd and early 4th century that belonged to the man famed for changing the face of the empire, Diocletian.
Marjan Hill: Explore Marjan Park-Forest, a popular place to escape the city. Walk, run, bike, or climb to the top for a must see view of Split’s harbor and old city.
Day 12: Fly Home
“I'm on vacation. Vacations always end. It's the very fact that it's finite that makes traveling special.”
This isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

FAQ
Complete Your Checklist Before heading to the airport, complete the tasks below and check them off in your Online Account Checklist. If you have any questions, give us a call at 617-619-1411. We’re available 24/7 to make sure you have the Best. Trip. Ever.
Travel Documents
- Passport: We recommend that your passport is valid at least 6 months beyond the date you return home. For specific passport validity rules, you can refer to the US department of State, Government of Canada, or Countries consulate website.
Visa: U.S. and Canadian citizens can enter Croatia without a visa for tourism purposes and stay for up to 90 days. If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
Electronic Travel Authorization: *Starting in mid-2025 U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before entering most European Union (EU) and Schengen Zone countries. This online application will require a small fee, and travelers will undergo a security check to determine their eligibility for entry. You can keep up to date *here. - Travel Insurance: While travel insurance is not required, we strongly encourage all travelers to obtain coverage before departure. Check out cost effective Travel Protection, designed to meet the needs of EF travelers, here.
- Health Insurance: You will need to carry your primary insurance card with you while overseas. This is a critical item in the event of a medical emergency.
Tour Preparation
- Talk with your doctor: It is highly recommended that you talk with your doctor about your travel plans. If you are taking any medications, be certain to bring enough to last throughout your trip.
- Traveling with allergies? Let your Trip Consultant and Tour Director know of any dietary restrictions/allergies and we will do what we can to accommodate for any included meals.
- Request a roommate: Double-check with us and your Tour Director that they have your rooming status on file. We will assign a roommate for you if you do not submit a specific request.
- Get an international data plan: We recommend getting an international data plan for your mobile device so you can stay connected while on the road. Please talk with your phone provider for your best options.
- Wi-Fi will be in some hotels, restaurants, and bars, though charges may apply and it may be slower than in the U.S.
- Wi-Fi is not available on the bus.
- Get the EF Ultimate Break app: Your trip's group will be able to connect on the app before you meet IRL. Don't miss out! Meet other travelers, get updates from your Tour Director, see flights and accommodations, and more. If you're having trouble, give us a call at 617-619-1411.
Flight Preparation Check your online account 30 days prior to departure for your flight itinerary and confirmation number. Using your 6-digit reservation code, you can reserve your seat (this is typically available 30 days to 24 hours before departure) and check in to your flight 24 hours prior to departure. If you prefer to check in at the airport, that’s okay, too. Regardless, plan to arrive 2.5 – 3 hours before departure.
All flight information is online (e-ticket) via your account and the airline’s website. You will not receive a physical paper ticket from us.
- If your flight is canceled or delayed: Don’t worry! We design the first day of tour as an arrival day in case of flight delays or cancelations. Work with the airline to get rebooked on the next available flight, then let your Tour Director know your new arrival time.
- If you sleep in and miss your flight: You should still talk to the airline and see if they can get you on the next available option. Tears may help in this case.
Arriving in Split Welcome to Croatia! Once you land, grab your luggage and pass through customs and immigration.
Your Tour Director will communicate through the EF Ultimate Break app, WhatsApp, or email about where to meet them at the airport. This is an important reason to make sure you have the EF Ultimate Break app!
If you have booked your own flight arrangements or have extended your travels before the tour dates, you will need to make your own way to the first hotel. Accommodation details will be available in your online account 30 days prior to departure.
Staying Healthy While Traveling
Fact: Travel is exhilarating. And FOMO is real. So, we understand why you don’t want to miss a second of the action. But there’s a difference between maximizing your time and spreading yourself too thin. Here are some tips to stay healthy and happy on tour:
- Sleep: Flying across the globe, changing time zones, and being constantly on the move can take a toll on your body. Make sure you get the rest your body needs. If that means missing a night out for some well-earned rest, or having a little afternoon siesta, so be it. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
- Stay hydrated: It’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially after spending all day in the sun!
- Be Prepared: The most prepared travelers will bring a small first aid kit, including antacids, anti-diarrhea medication, motion sickness medication, and any prescription medications in your carry-on bag.
- Take time for yourself: Group travel is an amazing experience, and there’s nothing quite like exploring a foreign country with a group of like-minded people. That said, it’s okay to take time for yourself to relax and reflect on your experience. Here are a couple mindfulness apps you can take with you on the road:
- MindShift: Focused on anxiety management, this app has an array of cognitive behavior therapy features including journaling, goal-setting, calming audio, and a community forum.
- Ten Percent Happier: Filled with videos and guided meditations intended to help with everything ranging from sleep to stress reduction.
Safety While Abroad
With a global presence of more than 46,000 people in over 115 countries and regions, we’re fully committed to your safety. From your first flight all the way through to your farewell dinner, don’t hesitate to reach out to your Tour Director or your Trip Consultant if you need a helping hand. Keep these extra tips in mind so you can #travelsmart:
- Keep your bag/purse in front of you and your phone zipped inside when you’re not using it. Leave your laptop at home, store valuables at the hotel in locked luggage or the safe deposit box. Refrain from carrying large sums of money or wearing valuable jewelry.
- Use the buddy system. Stay in groups and watch out for each other, especially at night—no one gets left behind!
- Be smart about alcohol consumption. Watch your drinks and don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know. Don’t leave the bar alone with someone you just met.
- Before you go out, grab a business card at your hotel so that you always have the address handy for getting back later.
- At the end of a night out, use trusted transportation like a licensed taxi and always have cash on hand.
- Save our 24/7 number in your phone: +1–617–619–1411.
For weight and size restrictions please refer to your airline’s website. Flight information will be available 30 days prior to departure in your online account. Below you'll find some critical packing information and suggestions.
- The most important piece of advice we can give you: Pack light, especially since you'll be on a boat! Your international airline ticket does include a checked bag, but years of customer feedback tells us a carry-on is the way to go. You may need to carry your suitcase where buses and elevators cannot, so make sure you are comfortable carrying everything you bring yourself.
- You've probably heard the hacks about rolling clothes and using packing cubes a million times, but there's a reason for that! It really does help.
- If you choose to pack all of your toiletries, don't bring your regular-sized bottles from home. Offload some of that into travel-sized containers.
- Choose your luggage wisely. We recommend a smaller, roller carry-on bag and a backpack as your personal item to bring on board.
- Choose shoes carefully as well. They're some of the bulkiest items you can pack, so we recommend a good pair of walking shoes and a pair of climate-appropriate shoes (boots or sandals depending on the destination and time of year). We also recommend a pair of closed-toe water shoes if your itinerary has any water activities.
- Make a packing list of must-haves and stick to it. If you have a little extra space in your bags once all your must-haves are packed, then consider adding in a few nice extras.
- Unfortunately, luggage can get lost. It’s a painful situation no matter what, but here are tips to ease some of the hassle:
- DO NOT put important medications in a checked bag. If your luggage is lost, this could become a dangerous issue.
- Even if you put most of your clothes in a checked bag, put a couple outfits in your carry-on along with your toiletries.
- If you are forced to check you carry-on at the gate, be sure to remove essentials and valuables before handing it over.
- Carefully review TSA restrictions when packing. There are a number of items not allowed in your carry-on and liquids have certain restrictions.
- Complimentary towels will NOT be available for use in hostels. We recommend packing your own, along with shampoo and conditioner. Microfiber towels are a great option; they pack small and dry fast!
- Check out the local weather; we haven't figured out how to control the weather yet so best to be prepared and plan accordingly.
- Don't forget: Outlets overseas can differ from the US, so be sure to pack the right power adapters/converters!
Remember that you know your spending habits best and not everyone’s spending habits are the same. These recommendations are based on a traveler who says yes to any and all activities while on tour.
Budgeting The local currency in Croatia is the Euro (€), we recommend budgeting around $80-$100 per day for meals, drinks, souvenirs, and tips or extra activities. Read on for more must-knows about money and tipping on your trip:
- Make sure to alert your bank of your travel plans to avoid fraudulent charges on your credit or debit card
- When exchanging money for this trip, better rates are usually found overseas, but it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
- You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but be wary of fees
Tipping
- We recommend tipping your Tour Director $10-$12 per day at the end of the trip
- Tipping 10% to waitstaff, and rounding up to the nearest Euro is customary
- For local guides, you should tip $2-$3 at the end of each experience
- At the end of your time on the boat, you'll have the opportunity to tip the crew as a whole. We recommend an amount of $6-$10 per day in the local currency.
This is a sailing and cruise-heavy tour, which means that at least 75% of your time will be spent on a private boat, cruising along the beautiful coastline of Croatia. Dreamy, right? As you prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime tour, here are some things you should know, in order to optimize your Croatian experience:
- Pack like you’re on a cruise. Multiple bathing suits, sunscreens, beachwear, flip-flops. Embrace the sea life!
- There is limited space available on board, so be sure to pack those smaller suitcases & duffle bags.
- Breakfast and lunch are provided each day on the boat.
- An expected daily routine is to start sailing around 6am, breakfast at 8am, swim break before lunch, lunch on the boat, dock.
- Activities on the boat can include sunbathing, swimming, floating, and exploring! On land you’ll experience sightseeing, dinners on your own, and Croatian nightlife!
- Wi-Fi is only available in the dining area of your boat.
- There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches or in your room.
- Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
- There is typically a restaurant on board the ship that is open if at least 10 people want to eat at one time.
- Outside food is not allowed on the boat except for granola bars or small snacks.
- Bring Dramamine with you if you’re prone to seasickness.
- Two shower towels are provided, and extras are available at 3 EUR per towel.
- Tipping the boat captain and boat staff is optional, but recommended, along with tipping your Tour Director. More details in "Money & Tipping"
Though most Croatians speak English, their national language is Croatian. Here are some basic phrases to brush up on before leaving. Most importantly: how to toast! And no, we don’t mean your bread. Say, “živjeli” pronounced zheev-yay-lee.
- Hello = bak (bahk)
- Goodbye = dovidenja (doh-vee-jeh-nyah)
- Please = molim (moh-leem)
- Thank you = hvala (hvah-lah)
- Pardon me = aprositite (oh-prohs-tee-tee)
- Yes = da (dah)
- No = ne (neh)
You’ll sample a variety of local dishes on your trip, but read on for delicacies you must try in Croatia:
- Olive Oil: Specifically from Istrian region, Croatia’s hub of creative gastronomy. Istrian region olive oil is said to be some of the best in the world
- Truffles: Also from Istria, try truffles - best in risottos, pastas, or other homemade dishes. Zigante Tartufi is the country’s largest exporter of truffles
- Black Risotto: Speaking of risotto, this dish is made with cuttlefish or squid, olive oil, garlic, red wine, and squid ink - which gives it the famous rich black color. Careful though, your teeth may turn black!
- Oysters: What better time to have oysters than on a boat in the Adriatic sea?
- Beer: The drink of choice in Croatia, you can’t go wrong with a local brew. We recommend anything by Zmajska Pivovara, Nova Runda, The Garden, and more!
- Brodetto: Also called brudet, Brodetto is a fisherman’s stew with a tomato base.
- Buzara: A simple dish of mussels in a wine broth with garlic and breadcrumbs - popular anywhere along the Croatian coast!
- Fritule: Of course, you need to top off all this savory seafood with a sweet treat. Try fritule! A donut-esque pastry with raisins, lemon or orange rinds, and sometimes even rum. Aka, YUM.
