Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight flight
Board your overnight flight to Sicily, cozy up, and put the season two intro of White Lotus on loop. Some might call that a weird flex—we call it setting the mood.
Day 2: Arrive in Palermo + Welcome Dinner
Bon vinuti! The island is the largest in the Mediterranean and has its own language—most locals speak Italian, too—but more importantly, its own style of pizza. Drop your bags, grab a slice, and repeat “Bedda Matri, I’m in Sicily!”
- Meet an EF representative and fellow travelers as they arrive at the airport.
- Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
- Enjoy a Welcome Dinner with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot.
Day 3: Palermo history & street food tour + optional Sicilian farm visit, wine tasting & picnic
Fun fact: Cannoli originated in Palermo—and yes, you’ll get to try some! This morning, you’ll explore the city’s layered history while sampling local delicacies around the same markets that have fed generations. Palermo is known for its unique blend of Arab, Norman, and Italian influences, so you’ll see it today in everything from the architecture to the flavors.
- Kick off your day with a local guide as you explore Palermo’s vibrant streets, sampling Sicily's most famous bites along the way. From savory to sweet, each tasting comes with a slice of history. And did you know? Palermo is home to the world’s first-ever 'food market'—the Ballarò Market, where fresh local produce has been sold for over 1,000 years!
- Stroll past Teatro Massimo, Italy's largest opera house and the third largest in Europe. Fun fact: It was featured in The Godfather Part III and stands as an iconic setting that adds to Palermo's rich blend of history, culture, and cinematic fame. A must-see for any visitor!
- Stand at Quattro Canti, where four of Palermo's historic neighborhoods converge. This Baroque square, also known as the 'Four Corners,' is a stunning symbol of the city's cultural fusion where history, art, and architecture come together in perfect harmony.
- Indulge in Palermo's must-try bites: cannoli (obviously), sfincione—Sicilian pizza with a twist, and crocche—crispy fried mashed potatoes. Crocche are a street food staple in Palermo, offering the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, making them a local favorite for centuries.
Monreale Cathedral: Just outside Palermo, this medieval church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known worldwide for its huge mosaics containing almost 5,000 pounds of gold.
Capuchin Catacombs: Under a normal-looking monastery you'll find nearly 8,000 skeletons and mummies on full display, the oldest belonging to a friar who died in 1599. Spooky.
Mondello Beach: Mondello is a short ride from Palermo and offers soft sands, clear water, and chic Liberty-style architecture.
Day 4: Travel to Catania region via Cefalù + optional Food Tour in Sicily
The region of Catania is located on Sicily’s east coast and tucked into the base of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. In the 1600s Catania was leveled by lava and earthquakes and then rebuilt using volcanic stone, giving its Baroque architecture a striking, moody character. On the way, you’ll stop in the charming seaside town of Cefalù, home to golden beaches and views that earned it a cameo in The White Lotus.
- Sit back and relax as you travel from Palermo to Cefalù, watching the stunning Sicilian countryside unfold—or take a quick nap! The route passes through ancient olive groves and vineyards, many of which have been producing for over 2,000 years, a nod to Sicily’s long agricultural history
- Stop in charming Cefalù to enjoy a leisurely lunch, explore its quaint shops, and unwind at one of Sicily’s most beautiful beaches. Cefalù was once a popular retreat for Roman emperors, with its idyllic views and serene surroundings making it a timeless getaway since ancient times.
- Settle into your accommodation and enjoy a relaxed evening exploring your surroundings. We recommend doing so with a refreshing granita, a quintessential Sicilian treat that’s especially loved in this region. Fun fact: Granita was originally made with ice brought down from Mount Etna, giving it a taste of Sicily’s volcanic heritage.
Day 5: Free day or optional Mount Etna volcanos & wine tasting excursion
Enjoy your free time and inhale all the taste-bud-tingling Sicilian food you can handle—we have faith in you. You can also head to Mount Etna where the volcanic soil, altitude, and Mediterranean Sea air produce some super sippable wines.
Baroque architecture: Catania’s historic center, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is characterized by ornate dual-colored buildings thanks to a combo of basalt and marble.
Pasta alla Norma: You absolutely cannot leave Sicily without trying its most famous pasta dish made with tomatoes, eggplant, and salty ricotta cheese.
Day 6: Explore Taormina + Sicilian cooking class
Today you’ll explore Taormina, a boujee town perched on a mountainside, known for its stunning views, epic beaches, charming medieval streets, and starring role in The White Lotus. Once you stand in the ruins of an amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, you’ll get why more people are flocking here every year.
- Join a local guide and step into the ancient Taormina Greek Theater, built in the 3rd century BCE and still hosting performances today. The theater's stunning location offers a panoramic view of Mount Etna, making it one of the most scenic and historically rich venues in the world.
- Learn to make (and eat!) a classic Sicilian dish, like arancini or pizza, during a hands-on cooking class led by a pro chef.
- Hop on a cable car down to Taormina’s stunning beaches for a relaxing afternoon, or stay in town to explore its winding streets, hidden piazzas, and charming local shops. Fun fact: Taormina is often called the 'Pearl of the Ionian,' thanks to its blend of natural beauty, ancient ruins, and Mediterranean charm.
Day 7: Travel to Malta via Syracuse
Ciau Sicily and ħello Malta! It's actually just pronounced “hello” in Maltese—easy! This independent island nation is an 8,000-year-old crossroads between Europe and Africa, and you’re about to dive into its melting-pot culture, rich history, and dreamy scenery.
For this day, we recommend bringing plenty of snacks for the ferry ride and considering an early dinner, as you'll be arriving in Malta later in the evening.
- Admire the stunning Sicilian coast as you head south on an early-morning bus ride. This coastline has been a vital trade route for centuries, connecting Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
- Stop for free time in Syracuse, famous for its ancient Greek ruins dating back to the 8th century BCE. The ancient theater here once seated 15,000 people and is still used for performances today.
- Continue to the port city of Pozzallo to board your ferry to Valletta, Malta’s capital city. The ferry route traces ancient maritime paths once traveled by Phoenician traders, who were some of the first to establish trade between Sicily and Malta over 2,500 years ago.
- Check into your accommodations in St. Julian’s, known for its nightlife and bay views, just outside Valletta. St. Julian’s was once a quiet fishing village, but today it’s a buzzing hub for tourists and locals alike!
Day 8: Mdina & Valletta
Today you'll visit two important Maltese cities—Mdina, a medieval walled town that served as the capital until the late 1500s, and Valletta, the Baroque younger sibling who got bigger and yoinked the title away. Rude.
- Bus to Mdina and join a local guide on a spin through its quaint medieval streets. Mdina is often called the 'Silent City' due to its peaceful atmosphere, with no cars allowed in the center—perfect for a step back in time.
- Step into a scene from Game of Thrones (yes, really, they filmed here!) and marvel at Mdina Gate, Vilhena Palace, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Mdina’s striking architecture made it the perfect backdrop for the show's King's Landing!
- Head to Valletta for another guided walking tour of the capital, seeing highlights like Parliament and the reconstructed ruins of the Royal Opera House. Valletta was built by the Knights of St. John in the 16th century as a fortress city, designed to withstand siege and stand the test of time.
- Enjoy free time in Valletta by browsing local shops, relaxing at one of the many charming cafés, or taking in the views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens before heading back to St. Julian’s. Valletta is often called an open-air museum, with over 320 historic monuments packed into its compact area—making it one of the most culturally rich cities in Europe.
Fort St. Elmo: A key stronghold during the 1565 Great Siege by the Ottomans, this iconic fort boasts gorgeous Grand Harbor views and also houses the National War Museum.
Street food: Sea air plus sightseeing equals one thing—snacks! Try some local Maltese bites, especially the pastries, like ricotta-stuffed pastizzi or date-stuffed imqaret.
Day 9: Free day or optional lagoon cruise & snorkeling + Farewell Dinner
What’s up today? Bopping around St. Julians? A beach reset? A pastizzi feast? Joining an epic optional day cruise with your new friends? All correct answers. In the evening, share some laughs (and maybe shed some tears) at an included Farewell Dinner in St. Julian’s with your group.
Three Cities: A frequent ferry crosses the Grand Harbor to Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua, three walled cities known for their maritime history and picturesque waterfronts.
Barrakka Gardens: Peep Malta’s best harbor views as you wind your way through the paths, gardens, and fountains of these once private upper and lower gardens.
Day 10: Fly home
Addio, ħbieb!
Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?
