Which trip type is right for you?

Plus: Room with just one other person in 3- or 4-star hotels. Perfect for people who value privacy and recharging in their own space.

Why go?

Imagine yourself an archeologist, discovering the Pyramids of Giza. Imagine yourself royalty, worshipped in history’s most revered shrines. Imagine yourself the sun god Ra, on the turqoiuse banks of the Red Sea. Now pinch yourself—this is Egypt, and it's very real. If you can’t possibly imagine leaving Egypt just yet, extend your trip with three extra days in the Cairo area. Travelers on the Cairo extension will enjoy experiences like a desert day trip to Fayoum and Wadi al-Hitan, a morning exploration of Cairo’s hidden side, and continued Tour Director support.

Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Flight

Read up on your pharaohs, board your overnight flight to Cairo, and channel your inner-mummy for some shut eye. You’re about to uncover a trip you’ll never forget.

This tour requires a visa for U.S. citizens. Check entry requirements or call us with questions at 800-766-2645.

Day 2: Arrive in Cairo

Welcome to Cairo! The capital city of Egypt is the starting point for your odyssey through ancient wonders and modern marvels. From the banks of the Nile River straight into your eyeballs, Cairo is an extraordinary city, home to nearly 20 million people, and the gateway to the Great Pyramids.

Please note: Getting to Egypt takes some time. Arrivals tend to be late on this day.

Today’s highlights
  • Land at the airport and meet a waiting EF representative.
  • Transfer to your hotel, check out your room, and start to meet your fellow travelers as they arrive.
  • Enjoy an included dinner upon arrival to your hotel.

Cairo extension

Ready for three extra days of ancient history, vibrant markets, and a hundred million more photo ops? Stick around to see another side of Cairo, explore the surrounding desert, and soak up the city’s mix of chaos, charm, and unforgettable energy.

Day 11: Check out of hotel + transfer to Zamalek neighborhood + walking tour

Zamalek is one of Cairo’s most elegant neighborhoods, set on a leafy island in the Nile. Known for its relaxed vibe, creative atmosphere, cafes, and boutiques, Zamalek feels like a true oasis. In the afternoon, take a walking tour through its quiet streets, stopping for coffee, pastries, and local treats along the way.

Day 12: Fayoum and Wadi al-Hitan day trip

An incredible day is in store! Kick things off with a thrilling 4x4 ride across the desert dunes of Fayoum, one of Egypt’s seven main oases. Stop at a Bedouin camp for a cup of tea and a peek into local culture, then it’s off to Wadi al-Hitan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you’ll walk among fossilized whale skeletons. End your adventure touring the ancient village of Tunis and its Old Medina—think colorful souks, historic mosques, and treasures waiting to be discovered.

Day 13: Morning tour of hidden Cairo

Today you’ll experience a more unique side of the capital. Explore Cairo’s east bank, starting with a drive through Manshiyat Naser—known as Garbage City—where you’ll learn about the Zabaleen community’s informal (but super efficient) recycling system. Continue up Moqattam Mountain to St. Simon the Tanner Monastery, also known as the Cave Church, one of the largest churches in the Middle East, and which is literally carved right into the cave.

Day 14: Fly home

The time has come to head to the airport in Cairo for your flight home. But this isn’t goodbye—it’s see you later. The only question is: where to next?
