Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight flight
Board your overnight flight, bound for Italy. Get ready to eat spaghetti on penne on linguine on fettuccine on gnocchi on ravioli on chocolate gelato—aka your Italian meal plan.
Day 2: Arrive in Rome + Welcome Dinner
Welcome to Rome, Italy’s capital city that is bursting at the seams with energy. Locals fill the streets, day and night, usually doing something that involves eating or drinking. And how can you blame them when pasta, pizza, gelato, coffee, and wine are everywhere you go?
In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!
- Meet an EF representative at the airport.
- Transfer to your accommodations and check in.
- Meet your fellow travelers as they arrive.
- Join your Tour Director for a quick walking tour of your Roman neighborhood.
Day 3: Tour Rome + optional rooftop aperitivo
Today you’ll join a local guide for an immersive tour of the Eternal City. Sightseeing in Rome feels like stepping into a living museum—around every corner, you’ll uncover ancient ruins, vibrant piazzas, and churches that have stood for centuries. As your guide brings the city’s to life, you’ll stand in awe of the ruins of the Roman Forum, the ornate palaces of Capitoline Hill, and the arches of the Colosseum. But first, cappuccino? Enjoy it now, because in Italy it’s strictly a breakfast bev.
- Experience the heart of ancient Rome with a visit to the Forum, once the center of daily public life, commerce, politics, and social gatherings for over a thousand years. It’s a sprawling ruin now, but you can still feel the weight of history among the foundations, walls, and columns that remain.
- Look out over the Forum from Capitoline Hill, one of Rome’s Seven Hills, home to the Michelangelo-designed Piazza del Campidoglio and the Capitoline Museums, the world’s oldest public museum stuffed with art and archaeological treasures.
- Gawk at the ruins of the Colosseum, Rome’s iconic amphitheater that hosted epic gladiator battles and grand spectacles for up to 50,000 spectators. Once your tour is over, make sure to ask your Tour Director about actually going inside for a deeper dive into history. No, you cannot fight your ex inside.
Day 4: Free day in Rome + optional Vatican City excursion + optional pizza cooking class
Mama mia, a whole day in Rome to do as you please! Explore some of your favorite places from the past few days, look for something new, or do as Lizzie McGuire did and fall in love with a local pop star who says you look exactly like his ex-singing partner. And if none of that sounds appealing, join the Vatican City excursion and catch a glimpse of the most interesting cities you’ve ever seen.
- Head to the nearest Italian café for a cappuccino—it’s how the locals do.
- Carpe all of the diem and make the most of your last day in Rome.
- Cross another country of your list (Vatican City is an independent nation).
Trevi Fountain: Rumor has it, if turn your back to the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin over your shoulder, it guarantees you’ll return to the Eternal City. Throw in a second coin, and you’ll not only come back, but also find love. Fine print: Significant other not guaranteed by EF Ultimate Break.
Shopping on Vide del Corso Walk down the longest pedestrian street in the city for some prime shopping. Populated by both locals and tourists, there’s room for everyone on the narrow store-filled street.
Sunset at Piazza del Popolo: Experiences one of Rome's most famous squares at sunset is magical. For even more magic, climb the Pincio Terrace for panoramic views of the city.
Pantheon at night: Seeing the Pantheon after dark is a whole different experience. The square in front of it becomes much quieter and the building itself is beautifully illuminated.
Day 5: Travel to Florence via Orvieto
As you journey south from Venice to Florence, you’ll stop in Orvieto, a quaint l’il hilltop town perched high above the Umbrian countryside. Famous for its dramatic cliffside setting, beautiful Duomo, and local-as-heck food and wine scene, Orvieto offers a slower, storybook slice of Italy. This is a photo stop that’ll have your friends back home rethinking their life decisions. Once you get to Florence, check into your accommodations and enjoy a free evening to explore on your own.
- Board your private coach, bound for Florence, and stop in Orvieto. Hey reader, right now would be a great time to Google image Orvieto. Kinda feels like Elsa and Anna’s vacation home minus the ice right?
- Seek out a glass of Orvieto Classico. This is a local, dry white wine that is literally ancient history. This has been the local pour for over (checks math, this can’t be right) 2,500 years (!!).
Day 6: Tour Florence + optional Tuscan wine tasting
You’ve got a full day in Florence, the compact capital of the Tuscany region known for its quaint, cobblestone streets, an iykyk blueberry steak, and a leather thrifting culture that might force you to buy a second suitcase. Throw on some comfortable shoes and join a local guide for a walking tour of the city. By the end of it, you’ll be looking up how to live in Italy forever.
*Note: There is no included entry to the Duomo during the guided sightseeing on this day, but you will have free time to return if you want.
- Cross the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s oldest and most iconic bridge, lined with historic workshops that have housed artisans and merchants for centuries. What’s that mean for you? Jewelry that actually fits your budget and one of the best sunset photos in the world.
- Stroll the Piazza della Signoria, home to Florence’s seat of power, the Palazzo Vecchio, as well as several intricate sculptures.
- Visit the Duomo Cathedral. Return during your free time if you’re up to climb the 463 steps to the top. Highly recommend btw—it’s the type of experience you’ll remember forever with a view that’ll likely be your lock screen for a year or so.
Touch grass: Loggia dei Lanzi is an open air sculpture museum, with a number of Renaissance statues. It’s beautiful, it’s in the open, and it’s free.
Stock up on leather: Florence is known for its plethora of leather goods, from belts and jewelry to purses and wallets.
Day 7: Travel to the Italian Riviera via Pisa
The Italian Riviera. Even the name sounds beautiful. This coastal slice of Italy pulls travelers from all over the world to its stunning beaches, quaint towns, and an authentic—and literal—taste of la dolce vita (the sweet life). Before you reach the coast, you’ll stop for a chance to see one of the most famous, most crooked, and most photographed monuments: The Leaning Tower of Pisa.
- Travel through the Italian countryside to Pisa, home to the world-famous Leaning Tower, which has defied gravity since the 12th century.
- Do that pose with the tower where you hold your arms out like it’s falling on you. Take a photo of this and post it on the internet. Everyone will love you.
- Arrive at your accommodations in the Italian Riviera and head out to explore with the group.
Day 8: Free Day in Italian Riviera + optional Cinque Terre Excursion
You’ve settled in to the Riviera lifestyle. Now take the day to explore everything the region has to offer. Bask in the sun on the beach, fill your camera roll with breathtaking photos, or walk through open-air markets. Nothing is off the table today—except for boredom. Want to go even more iconic? Grab your spot on an optional day trip to Cinque Terre.
- Wake up, grab an espresso, and head out for an entirely free day in Italian paradise.
- Pick a hike, any hike for some fresh air and views of classic Italian countryside like you’ve never seen.
- Opt in for an excursion to Cinque Terre, where more beauty and more relaxation await you.
Day 9: Travel to the French Riviera via Monaco
Check another country off your list—Monaco, the world’s second-smallest (but possibly swankiest) nation! This country is home to the Monaco Yacht Show, where millionaires and billionaires come together in harmony to throw money at mega-yachts. This is a great place to meet your future spouse, FYI.
- Pretend you’re rich for a hot minute in Monaco, the tiny country with more yachts per square foot than makes sense.
- Stroll through the streets of Monte Carlo, where luxury shops and casinos compete for your attention—and most likely get it.
- Continue on to your hotel in the Riviera. Once you check in, think about the first time you moved into a dorm room. This is decidedly not that.
Day 10: Explore the cities of the French Riviera + optional French Riviera food tour
Today is all about embracing the French Riviera lifestyle—slow mornings, sun-filled afternoons, and food that makes you rethink every meal you’ve ever rushed through. This is the balance travelers dream of when searching for the best Mediterranean itinerary.
- Join your group on a private coach and bop from Riviera town to Riviera town. Each has its own personality, from mega rich to boho rich—today’s the day you choose your “I’m a billionaire, now what?” character.
Day 11: Free day in French Riviera
Sleep in, slow down, and do whatever you want during a free day in the French Riviera. There’s so much to see and do, but if you’re tired of seeing and doing, take a break and relax at one of the many beaches or take in the scenery from a hill town.
- Enjoy waterfront restaurants, lounge on world famous beaches, explore posh boutiques, and feel like an A-Lister (kind of), because you’re in the vacation hotspot of the world’s rich and famous.
- Taste-test some local favorites, including socca, the South of France’s take on the traditional crepe. Step aside, Parisian pastries!
- Channel your inner Picasso (the famous painter who did not cut off his ear) and visit a few esteemed art museums and demonstrations—you’re in the former stomping grounds of many influential artists.
Beach clubs: Rent a lounger, order rosé, and fully relax on the French Riviera coastline, where clear water and smooth pebbled beaches create a unique swimming experience. Unlike sandy beaches elsewhere in Europe, these shores stay clean and cool, and the water clarity here is some of the best in the Mediterranean.
Castle Hill viewpoint: Climb or take the elevator for sweeping views over Nice’s rooftops and coastline—one of the best photo spots on the Riviera.
Night out in Nice: From relaxed wine bars to dance spots near the port, evenings here are social, lively, and effortlessly chic.
Day 12: Travel to Provence via Verdon Gorge
It’s on to Provence, where scenic countryside inspired artists likes Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. The vineyards are vast, and the ratatouille (can’t guarantee Remy and Linguini collab’d on this one) is delectable. But first, stop at Verdon Gorge river canyon for some lunch and water activities. Look around—what you see is no mirage. But it is paradise.
- Take in jaw-dropping views of the Verdon Gorge from the water on included pedal boats or kayaks on Lake Sainte-Croix. Yes, it’s as unreal as it looks.
- Check into your hotel and get your bearings on a walk through this seaside town with your Tour Director (aka the fastest way to figure out where to eat and what’s worth your time).
- Go lavender field hunting in Provence, where the views are elite, the scent is undefeated, and you could be the clutch friend with Claritin in your bag.
Day 13: Travel to Barcelona
Your journey continues as you head to Barcelona, the Mediterranean capital of Catalonia (one of Spain’s 17 regions) and a city shaped by Romans, maritime traders, and avant-garde artists. Expect golden beaches, Gothic alleyways, and the unmistakable style of Gaudí, whose architecture screams whimsy.
Drop your things at your accommodations and meet your Tour Director for a walking tour of the area, including the cobblestone alleyways of the Gothic Quarter.
Stroll down Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s iconic pedestrian boulevard. Street performers, flower stalls, and cafés fill the street and La Boqueria, Barcelona’s most famous market, fills your belly.
Day 14: Tour Barcelona + optional sunset cruise
This morning, you’ll set out on a Barcelona tour for young travelers with your local guide, including the famous Park Güell. Overlooking the city, this early-1900s project was originally meant to be a luxury garden community—until Gaudí’s trippy designs showed up. Today, it’s a kaleidoscope of mosaics, curving benches, and gingerbread-house-looking structures, all set against views of the city and sea.
- Keep an eye out for Gaudí’s other works across the city, especially Casa Batlló and La Sagrada Familia, the world-famous basilica that has been under construction for more than 140 years—boomer.
- See Barcelona’s 1992 Olympic Park, perched along the Mediterranean Sea. Built for the Summer Olympics, the park transformed the city’s waterfront with iconic venues like the Palau Sant Jordi and Montjuïc Olympic Stadium. Today it’s a mix of sports history, stunning ocean views, and a reminder of Barcelona’s moment on the world stage.
- Listen for the sounds of both Spanish and Catalan—many Barcelonians are fluent in both. Spanish is spoken everywhere, while Catalan, the region’s historic language, often appears on menus, signs, and other public spaces.
Day 15: Free day in Barcelona + optional Sagrada Família tour & sangria + Farewell Dinner
Let’s play choose your own adventure, Barcelona edition. Today’s all about you, your bucket list, and your story. Another stop at La Boqueria for tapas? Do it. A walk along the Mediterranean at Barceloneta? Love that for you. Over analyzing the relationship dynamics in The Embrace at the Picasso Museum? Sure, why not?
In the evening, it’s time for your Farewell Dinner. Hosted by your Tour Director, this dinner is your chance to relive the best stories, the funniest inside jokes, and all the unforgettable moments you’ve shared with new friends.
Picasso Museum: Stand in awe of thousands of Pablo Picasso’s early works, sketches, and paintings, all housed inside five stunning Gothic palaces.
La Boqueria market: Wander through colorful stalls, sampling fresh fruit, jamón, seafood, and local treats while soaking up the sights and smells of this iconic Barcelona market.
Comer Little Closer: From paella, a traditional rice dish, to Basque-style tapas, Barcelona has gastronomy locked down.
Day 16: Fly Home
¡Adios, amigos!
Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, enjoy your last few moments together. Take one more group photo. Grab that final drink. (Fine, maybe a couple of drinks.) But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?
