The Ultimate Guide to Photo Booths in Europe

We have a habit of finding vintage photo booths in every city we visit. Here’s our ultimate guide to the most charming ones across Europe.

There’s a very specific kind of excitement in a vintage photo booth, the kind that gets you giddy and anxious to experience something that people have been doing over and over again for decades. The beauty of a vintage photobooth is twofold: first, you’re about to take the best photo of your life; and second, hundreds of other people will step into that same booth and have their own version of that exact same magic.

I don’t just like vintage photobooths. I hunt for them. Every city I visit, the first thing I do is find the vintage photo booth, and once I get there, I pull the curtain and let four frames capture a version of me that belongs entirely to that place. So, naturally, I started keeping track. Consider this your unofficial (and very personal) guide to my favorite vintage photo booths across Europe.

1. London — Coal Drops Yard

Cost: €7 (card or cash)

Address: Lower Stable Street, London, UK N1C 4DR

This photobooth is tucked away in London's Coals Drop Yard. My sister and I went after a night out and there was no one there. We easily spent $30+ just taking picture after picture. I carry one of the strips with me to every new place I live and it has a spot on my wall.

2. Prague — Pasáž U Nováků

Cost: 120 Kč or €5 (card or coins)

Address: Vyšehradská, 128 00 Nové Město, Czechia

Prague already feels like a fairytale, so finding a vintage photo booth here feels almost too on the nose. This one is tucked inside a passage that feels like you are going the wrong way. You half expect it to not work… but then it does, and suddenly you’re holding a strip of photos that look like they could’ve been taken decades ago.

3. Paris — Photobooth of Montmartre

Cost: €6 (card or coins)

Address: 53 rue des Trois Frères, 75018 Paris M° Abbesses

Iconic photos in THE iconic city. Montmartre already is the best part of Paris—with the best food, art, and views, and this booth leans all the way in. It’s iconic, a little crowded, but absolutely worth it. And the photos? Very Paris. Oui Oui.

4. Florence — Angel Photobooth

Cost: €2 (coins only)

Address: Via dell'Agnolo & Via Giuseppe Verdi, near Santa Croce

Florence is all art and history and golden-hour light and it's FILLED with vintage photobooths. It almost feels like every corner you turn you can find one, but this is my favorite. Near Santa Croce, you’ll find it with a little angel on top. If there’s a line, no worries because there’s a wine window down the street and a ton of cafes where you can get a drink. This strip is one of my favorites, surrounded by all my friends in one of my favorite cities.

5. Amsterdam — The Hoxton

Cost: €4 - €8 (card or cash)

Address: Herengracht 255, 1016 BJ Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam’s version is effortlessly cool. Duh. Inside The Hoxton, right up the front stairs, is the coolest photobooth (and it's inside so you can escape the summer heat or the winter wind). This booth is also right next to the hotel bar, where you can get a drink while you wait for it to develop, and is right on the canal, so you have a beautiful view of Amsterdam.

Honorable Mention — Madrid (not a booth, but the best thing you will ever do)

Cost: €10 (cash only)

Address: Paseo del Prado, s/n, 28014 Madrid, Spain

In Madrid, there's a courtyard between the Railto park and the El Prado Museum. Here, there 's a man with a vintage camera taking pictures in the park. The photos are hand developed right in front of you and he will give you Spanish and photography lessons while he works. This was one of the coolest experiences, getting to see how much work goes into one single photo. Oh, and the view isn’t half bad!

In a world where everything is instant, editable, and endlessly retakable, vintage photo booths feel like a small act of happiness.

Just you—where you are, how you feel, who you’re with.

So, if you’re traveling anytime soon, consider this your sign: find the photo booth. Let the moment be enough.
